Yeah I'll be there trying to prove that you don't need a turbo, FR or LSD to drift :whip: :D :wack:

Funnily enough it is at Brands Hatch this year so I am informed.

Are you "doing an Aston" and borrowing a car too? ;):wack: LOL
I was under the impression they wont do one seeing as how there are more requirements to drive at Silverstone now (suit etc) and how that would quite narrow the number of people who would enter?
Its different at these events though. No suits required, although on the last two dates Ive been there were suits being worn by some of the drivers...
A guy at work is going, i'll find out after lunch how he entered etc.
A guy at work is going, i'll find out after lunch how he entered etc.Gah, the latest copy is sitting at home as I subscribe! I'll for sure be entering in that case. Wonder if they'll wet the track again...
What corners can you drift safely at Brands?!
From memory,
Paddock Hill: Tricky due to extreme slope - loads of stoppages with people in the gravel
Druids: Out of sight from grandstands
Graham Hill Bend: Only grass between the outside of the bend and the wall (true, it's a long way, but I saw an Elise hit the wall there on a trackday once)
Surtees: Wall on the inside, and its a long way from the stands
Clearways: Way to long - would be absurdly fast as a drift, wall on the outside, pit wall on inside of exit
Are you "doing an Aston" and borrowing a car too? ;):wack: LOL
Nah mate, the beemer is the trademark, and if it's wetted my huge gigantic ego head will kick arse (in fantasy land)....

I would imagine they would use Surtess into Clearways. I dont think Clearways is too fast, but its a funny angle and people will hit the wall on the outside. The pit entry is a fair bit up the track, youd have to be pretty good to hold it that far I think. Like the last bend at Silverstone not many go off to the inside right on the corner exit.

Jesus! Still no LSD and you drifted that well at D1? :notworthy

Couldnt have said it better. I drove it a few years back on one of their drivers days....
Clearways would be awesome! :D
Sorry, my mate is doing this and not the sideways challenge
Autocar Drift School (http://www.autocarmagazine.co.uk/popups/ticketintro.asp)
hehe I might be tempted to do that too....
Just to drive a caterham and attempt to beat the instructors. hehe
This is probably going to take place in the lower paddock/car park area rather than the circuit.
It will be interesting to find out what tyres they are going to use with regard to noise. Brands is one of the few circuits where they call you in on trackdays if you squeal your tyres!

the last one they done was in caterhams £170 but i did see a post on pistonheads from some dude requesting tyres for the sideways challenge so maybe this time you can bring your own car
No mate - The Sideways Challenge is an Open Entry event previously...
Bring ya own car, wet track etc. No noise issue, low(er) speeds, :ghey: etc etc

Autocar sideways challenge has been a complete farse in the past.. Normal people got 1 practice run, and 1 competition run, 'celebs' seemed to get continuous goes as they pleased, and the judging was shockingly biased towards the rich and famous :indiff:

Think thats their drift school thing which is a bit different. If the sideways challenge isnt on the track its going to be a bit crap I think :indiff:
Just got this email back from Autocar:
Hi Matt
There will be a sideways challenge this year, it is going to be at Brands Hatch and is on 21st September. You can book at:
http://www.motorsportvision.co.uk/sideways
I believe there will be details in the magazine this week and we will have it on the autocar website this week too.
Kind regards

95 quid for two runs?
I was going to have a go, but they can piss off for 95 quid!
astraboy.
Hmmm, methinks Ill just go to watch again...
Is there anyone in the club we can enter who is a sideways god? We can all chip in a few quid each and bask in the glory of stuffing the opposition.

Hmm not sure, I wonder if there are any people that drift in the SXOC.. hmm.. any suggestions anyone? :D:D

Perhaps there should be a sideways shoot-out to see who goes through to represent the club... We could use Silverstone carpark :D

Looks pretty crap to be honest. Why the fook would anyone want to drift a monster truck?:indiff:

Knowing that lot it will be some huge pimped up yank tank or a Bentley, novelty cars is the name of the game with Autocar.
Last year it was £75 no lunch only one run at Silverstone (same as D1) with NO practice at all!!!
So an extra £20 for lunch & another run is better but it's still very very expensive, but I suppose its a charity after all.
I'm still thinking about it
