Turbo = exhaust gasses.
Supercharger runs all the time and has a belt but how does the technology actually WORK?
Thankyou for accomodating my thickness :wack:

simple terms.
belt driven from crank pulley, drives a compressor, easy as that!

Basic Rootes type blower has 2 figure 8 rotors which revolve against each other at speed, air or air+fuel is drawn thru and with it geared up produces pressureon hte engine side of the charger.
More than one charger can be used in series to stage the charge and increase pressure.
Add nitrous and well .....

saw a cool one at the autosport show, was basically a turbo compressor being driven by the crank via a gearbox.

Kind of.
It was ran directly off the crank though, not a belt.
Same idea though.
My brother's just had a Mini Cooper S Cabriolet - it's got a boost gauge on it that goes up to 5 bar
WTF!?
When it's idling, it sits at about 2.5 bar... :wack:

sure it's not an oil pressure gauge?
sure it's not an oil pressure gauge?
:D :D :D
I run 16.5psi which is something like 1.08 bar, unless I am very much mistaken.
5 bar would be about 90psi - f*ckin' hell!!!
Ooh, good point - it's right next to the oil temp gauge, so probably is! :wack: :D

bwahahahahahaha
does that mean my inlet charge doesn't really hit 130 degrees c on track? (on my normally aspirated golf...)
:D A 90psi Mini :D
Now that would be :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy even if it were a Scrabble Monster, which it most certainly is (said in a Stan Laurel type way)
...It def says 5 bar though...
You could have mistaken it for a gate (think about it).... :wack:
