Us taxes apply and anything over £18 is subject to customs and excise tax, contact custom & excise to check whether you can reclaim this or get it sent by friend/family.
I'm waiting for $525 US worth of kit for one of my cameras to arrive from an engineer in Vancouver....can't wait to see how much the bloody customs and VAT will add to it.
I got a (very rare) lens hood sent from Los Angeles last year...nearly £100 after duty and VAT (even payable on something 30 years old).

so if I can something sent one bit at a time in handy £17.99 chunks I dont pay customs nothing, great.
I enquired what it would cost to get some bits from Taka in Japan. You pay a total of about 22% on the value of the goods and the postage added together. This includes VAT and import tax. I can find out for you if you want as I have a contact at customs. How much are you looking at importing?
import duty will be calculatd on the value of the goods + the postage, then the vat will be charged on the value of the goods + postage + import duty. should come to about 48% of what you paid for it. feckin bastids.
