View Full Version : Need a new mouse
mousey at home is getting long in the tooth, so is due for replacement. It's a IR wireless jobby, with a ball. really nice, because it has a scroll lever, not a wheel, but no one seems to do those now.
Unfortunately the rollers are getting a bit pitted, and i think the bearings (or holes as we know them) are wearing a bit. so time for a change
Obviously want to go optical, and keep cordless. possibly rechargable, but most of them seem to use the USB supply to charge. so you can only charge your mouse when the computer is on? is it me, or is that the one time you don't want the mouse in the charger?
rechargable ones with a seperate charger seem to cost a lot more, but i like the idea of getting away from batteries, cos it's always 2 in the morning when the thing dies on you!
so, experience , recommendations and opinions on cordless optical mouses

Logitech MX900 Bluetooth optical mouse = :D
Combined with the DiNovo Media keyboard it rocks
The bluetooth transmitter also doubles up as the charger and doesnt need the pc on to charge either :)
It also adds fully bluetooth functionality to your pc, meaning your phone/pda can sync with it and do all kinds of stuff (I answered my phone it it played through my pc speakers as a giant speakerphone for example).

PMSL that is a bit :wack:
I have one of the Microsoft Trackball Explorer ones, it's not cordless but has the roller and a back and forward page buttons on it too
I love my trackball :smitten:

obviously someone in the industry had the same thoughts! Trust (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15388&item=5111603566&rd=1) usb charger, but TWO sets of batteries so you charge while you use.
thinking about it though, this one must be better same product £10 more (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15388&item=5111621284&rd=1)
"Trust" Wireless Optical Mouse with charging station and seperate power supply (so you can charge while the PC is off) - £17 in Tesco.
It's a lot nicer than the price suggests as well.
Logitech MX300 gets my vote... it's a normal shaped mouse but its optical and very responsive. Cheap as chips too.

There seems to be a theme building here...
I use a Logitech Mx700: It's wireless, optical, has numerous programmable buttons (wheel not bar as you probably guessed) and has a base station/charger that can either be powered by USB or via a mains adapter :Plug:
Not the cheapest, but pretty damn fine

That's what I'm using now. Very fine mouse.
I used to have the wireless intelimouse by microsoft, but prefer the logitech one. The reasons being:
Logitech mouse is far more solid than the MS one.
Logitech comes with rechargeable batteries that automatically recharge when it's put in it's cradle, MS one has no cradle and comes with normal batteries.
Logitech mouse's wheel has those little notches when you roll the wheel, MS one is smooth.
Logitech mouse also has discreet buttons for scroll up and down and page back and forward, MS has the tilt facility which I didn't bother to install the software for...
