I've just bought a cheap runaround car to use for the daily work commute. It's a 1987 Fiesta 1.1.

Can anyone recommend an insurance company who will do a good price on a cheap 2nd car?

I can't put my NCB on it as my 200sx has them, I'm over 25 so I'd expect the cost no to be astronomical!!

I've been getting quote of around £500+ so far! :(

BUGGER! Just realised I posted this in the wrong forum!!!

Just register it in someone else's name, you can then drive it third party only on your own insurance!

sorry hotrod! but it dont work that way - to drive someone elses car under driving other cars extension it has to be insured by the someone else!

Second car policies should not - and i mean not! cost you 500 nicka, esp for a bag o cack 1.1!
Are you with a broker at the mo? or direct to an insurer? if youre with a broker he'l prob use your last renewal invite as proof of bonus if you ask him nicely!! Brokers have a milliion and one trix.

if ur still stuck provident insurance co do a second car scheme thats pretty good. Try William Taylor insurance 01708 855141, ask for Neil and he should be able to help you out.

Thanks for your help, I'll give those companies a try.

Best quote so far is £343 for a 1987 Fiesta 1.1, that's without using my NCB but I'm 25 years old. I believe that quote was with provident, but a standard quote and not their 2nd car scheme.

I am currently with Adrian Flux and cannot drive other cars on my insurance policy. :(

Are you planning any mods for the Fiesta?

I have tried them and they were useless. Infact they tend to be competitive on tuned/modified car but rubbish on run of the mills cars like Fiesta, Astra, Metro's etc...

actually thats a good point.
they charged me an extra £80 to insure the rover from the 200 insurance even though its around a 10th of the value

I 'gave' my Metro to my mum - and drive it 3rd party on the insurance for my 200

I had no trouble getting tax :) It's all legal... just ;)

I'd like to able to do that but I don't have the option of driving other cars on my policy! :(

I had a simlar problem a few months ago, although the opposite to you; The 200 is on limited mileage and I've got a Punto as the main car.

Try Greenlight Insurance of Essex (they're on the web if you do a search).

They are excellent.

This may not be any good to you if you have, say, 10 months to run on your current policy but I recommend them.

Just phoned Taylor Price Direct and they weren't particularly competitive, they quoted me £350 for a 1987 Fiesta 1.1.

I have just got a much better quote from 1st Quote Insurance, £253 TPFT.

Now I'm happy! :)

Is that possible?

I guess I could remove the engine and fit an elastic band! :D

I'll race your Metro! :D

Banger racing it is! :D

I'll be getting a new runny-bout soon, as Metro MOT expires at the end of the month - and the car with it! So you'll have to race 'Metro II, Son-of-Metro'

I'm not sure what it'll be yet, I keep thinking I could get a little GTi of some sort, but then I might as well buy an old S13, as I won't be paying insurance

I met a bloke once who had spent 15 grand tuning a Fiesta 1.1 ghia that he had bought for a grand!?. It had about 170 horses and could do 1/4's in the low 13's.
