The sound clip is copyright (c) BBC Corporation, so if it is in any way not allowed, please remove it Mr Moderator.

This was something that exploded from a small letter in the local press to worldwide in 36 hours (Canadian and Spanish radio stations actually called my mum wanting interviews).

The sound-clip is from Radio 4's Today programme from Thursday 29th July 8am-9am. my mum on radio 4 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/today/listenagain/ram/today5_wicakes_20040729.ram)
This will only work until Thursday 5th August 2004 due to BBC copyright thingies.

Also, check out My mum on the winternet thingy (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/3938117.stm)
for further proof of her meddling. Don't know how long this link will stay live.

She also appeared on Anglia Tonight, Look East and ITN National News on Thursday. Curiously, I was caught up in the whole "my mum is a celeb" thing and felt really proud of what she had done.

Made the Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, The Times, Cambridge Evening News, Saffron Weekly News (front page), The Walden Local (front page) newspapers.

Anyways, it's all genuine and quite silly really, in retrospect, but it's my mum and she got her 5 minutes of fame. And I'm turning it into 10 minutes of fame!!!!

MODS. I'm not sure if this is in-appropriate, so please delete if it is.

Final question : if your mum was suddenly caught up in this kind of media storm, would you...

a) Feel really proud and support her all the way
or...
b) Deny that you ever knew her!!

GO MUM!
happy listening

Hands off

These cakes are all mine, you hear me, MINE ;)

It must be said (even though it does come across as little bit :ghey: , her Victoria Sponge is mighty fine. Oh feck, I'm :ghey: :ghey: :ghey: . Look, it tastes nice. Surely that's not as :ghey: as Haydn's sig :Plug: is it? :D ;) :p

Anyway, the Daily Mail even offered to send the Health Inspectors around to check her kitchen out and report the findings - obviously, the report would have been positive, even if there were massive quantities of Chav bugs kicking around (allegedly, obviously deliberately lying to the public would be a no-no, but there's lies, damn-lies and statistics). I have found new respect for The Daily Moral Guardian.

Where's the "shameless plug for my mum" smiley when you need it, eh? :)

Go mum!!! If it was my mum I'd be very proud - damn straight!

I would have thought that the W.I. members' kitchens are probably bloody cleaner than any hospital

Do you think your mum could sort out the good people of the SXOC with some cakes :)

I'll tell her, but I don't think she'll listen :(

Anyway, it's all blown over now and everything has returned to normality.

Really young eh? I'll tell her that, she'll be most flattered :)
