GTIRs are comming down in price, basically cos theyare a hell of alot of sh*tters about at the moment, althought IMO you want to get a well looked after one for about £5k.

ive been driving one now for 14months now...a reliable well maintained one will set you in good sted, a used/abused one will be a money pit.

things that go wrong are....

gearbox , standard ones are good but are the weaklink, if it goes your talking alot of $
clutch, again standard ones on high boost (1bar) wont last long, receipt for my AP paddle clutch and fitting came to £800+ thou there are a few GTIR guys on the board who will change it for £200ish +parts.
breaks - uprate them, standards are poo

17inch wheels etc are a no no IMO, affects the 4wd alot, 16's max,

insurance is totally different to the s13, rememebr its more than likey your going to find the import "pulsar" and these are group 19/20 and IMPORT obviously, alot of companies wont touch you on insurance. looking at about £1000+, alot of companies now wont touch under 25s on the GTIR now..(dont know if this affects you?)

they do handle well, drink fuel abit more than the s13,

280-90bhp is achievable, boost controller, filter, walbro, etc,

they do take a lot of $ to keep in top notch condition, the ride is VERY VERY uncomfortable in comparisson to the S13, if your doing alot of motorway miles, i wodulnt bother,

its very agressive to drive, noisy, etc, you get alot of looks cos of the vent/spoiler

at times its a nice car , other times i really hate it, at the moment i dont like it much to be honest, and saving for an RX7 Gen 3..

oh yeah fogot to mention, there is ALOT of differences between each GTIR so make sure you go look at alot,

parts are very expensive, example, that wheel arch trim is £65 from Nissan or £45 second hand etc,

give us a pm if you wanted any info on my R

Prety helpful, cheers M8..Mechanics side of things is sorted, and have a M8 in the trade for bodywork so not really an issue either. What is the performance like compared to S13?? My S13 is nice and quick (After the lag, lol.).

Lee off the 323gtx.co.uk forum imports them (he use to own a GTi-R ;)) Prices are 4-6k ish, standard performance is 180bhp, but with an exhaust and filter most people see about 250bhp ;)

Thanks M8, I'll look at them. Bit of a jump from 180 to 250 with zorst and filter change M8, is that right ???

what are you on about Morf? :(

standard performance is 5.5seconds (get the launch right)

standard power ISNT 180BHP its 227BHP for the GTI-R

off the line etc, and up to about 80 pulsar is quick, the s13 with a few mods etc, will much one but at motorway speeds really 65+ basically cos of the 4wd and the brick like shape of the Pulsar

Morf i always thought the euro ones were 180 and the jdm ones were 210 due to fuel? Either way i had one (323 GTR) and sold it to fund my s14 project. Quality little car but i have to say i was petrified of breaking it. Only 2500 in the whole world ever made so parts can be expensive. And yes you can get those gains easily.

Just about to say that, town driving the GTiR will muller a 200,even a moderatly tuned one, built for rally nuff said same goes for the 323. 3rd gear onward the 200 has the edge. it's all about choosing the right weapon for the right battlefield, two totaly different weapons IMHO.

Thats a honest opinion right there Matty

I don't dislike GTiR's but I'm not the biggest fan, I dislike the fact that it's a Nissan Sunny, like Matty says they cost a lot of fix if things go wrong but they do handle well, but on saying that most 4wd cars do.

If the lights they are quick but after about 70 they loose a lot of power.

Overall not a bad car but not my choice really, thats just my opinion ;)

philrob2000
24-07-2004, 21:33
Think I'll stick with the GTiR idea M8.. Not overly keen on the "brick" shape but like the speed bit..... I need a smaller car than my S13 and basically thats the only stipulation.. ( But I can't afford anything too flashy,
:( ;) ).

another good "Little power rocket" is the Starlet Turbo..these can be very very quick, and cheaper than the GTIR, oh and the interior of the s13 puts the GTIR to shame, Nissans budget went on the tunning of the R, not the interior, seats, not supportive, interior very very plastic its like driving a tupperwear box at times, oh and they do tend to get nicked alot...

Didnt know that, do they have alarms on em as standard

mattygti-r
24-07-2004, 23:44
very few jap cars (imported ones) have alarms , basically cos car crime is low in japan ,and all cars are sold via auctions so easily traced, etc (so im told) hence many off the boats have fck all theft devices etc.

insurance normally wont take it unless its CAT1, they are group20 :( , and nearly everyone knows what a GTIR is...no alarms as standard i dont think.
