View Full Version : Job App, quick question.
If you were underpaid (according to industry adverages) by approx £5-7k a year and an application for a new job asked for you current salary, would you provide it??
Or leave it blank??
:)
I'd provide it, as it doesn't matter what you're on now - its what you're worth to the hiring company that matters :)
I'd tell lies and try to match it to roughly 5% short of what you expect your starting salary to be, but that's me. :)

Stick the extra 5-7K on mate.
I was in exactly the same boat. If anyone had ever questioned the figures i would have explained it as overtime and teaching.

Yes, but the problem comes when you hand over the P45, you're details are on it, lie and its plain as day, not a good start for a new employer to see.
I know thats what I do.
Good point!
You could get awya with that in a large company though.
Errr.... i now have one with nothing on it, and one with £20k.... dont know what to do!!

And how would you deal with the situation once you've employed them?
One of your references is usually your current employer. They'll usually ask how much you're on now so personally I'd tell the truth..
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.
One of those moments..... lol!!
Going to leave it blank, if i get an interview they can ask me why :)
Fingures crossed!

As an employer I wouldn't give out that information. risky...
Agencies ask contractors that question everytime they contact about a position. I tell them its irrelevant what I'm on now. Its how much the new contract is paying that matters.
If I'm pushed for a figure, I'll make one up. As has been said its what you're worth that matters. Just don't exaggerate.
