If I remember correctly they are a kit car, popular ni the mid-late 80's.The styling was based on the Morgan, though not quite as pretty, usually came with a 1.6 Ford CVH in them.
I think they were available pre-built too, in the same way Caterhams are now.
Quite nice looking little things...

I was close...I was thinking of the Kallista, the Lima is a little older and has a Vauxhall 2.3, here are the details http://www.pantherclub.co.uk/#B

A vitesse chassis and a 70s Vauxhall engine

Sounds a bit like the bastard offspring of Fred West and Myra Hindley :wack:

And steel bodywork on a steel chassis so wouldn't pull the proverbial skin of a rice pudding. The Kallista at least had a chance with an ali body and a v6 Ford option - still looks better than a Panther Solo though.

Nothing wrong with the front half of a vitesse chassis - lovely double wishbone setup, as for the abortion at the rear...........................

Horrible things, always bought by people who call them "classics" much to the hilarity of everyone else.

A bloke I know around here was offered one for £35k... He wasn't sure what it was either, so asked me to find out some things about it. My reply after about 3 minutes of searching around was DON'T DO IT, ARGH, KILL IT DIE DIE DIE DIE. He agreed and bought a TVR Cerbera instead :D

Most of the story is above, So (swaps Volvo 33/343 anorak for Panther :wack: dear or dear jacket).

Limas came in 2 sizes X-flow 1600 and Pauxhall 2.3 single cam - they are crap, sorry but they were. As a sort of stylish alt to the caterham but with none of the build quality and none of the speed.

Later they were bought over by ??? and the lima turned into the Kallista, better, but not much.

I'm doing this from memory, so IIRC.

They also did the Six, which was  and the J72 which was also  and one which lookedlike a Buggati Royale. The J72 and the Royale thing were based on Series 11 jags so they had problems from the start built in, ( remember Series 11 jags were bring built by BL  at this time),

The six was (surprise, surprise) had Six wheels, desinged by Bob Jankel, and the engine was from IIRC V12 JAg???, I think they sold 3 IIRC, before they went bust.

How you have all managed to avoid the RIO is beyond me

Based on the Triumph Dolomite (or Dolomite Sprint in the case of the Rio Especial) this Panther is about as exclusive as they come. Made in very limited numbers, the car blends traditional English styling with the modern image of the car. Fashioned with true Panther care and craftmanship, they need to have been kept in excellent condition to be seen at their best.
