The guy said it wouldn't start this morning, I am going to have a look at lunchtime but thought I would get opinions.

He said it was making a quieter noise than normal when he turned it over.... (he hasn't got a clue about cars, or common sense so his description may be far from the truth).....

I rekoned either battery and starter motor is turning but not engaging with flywheel, or starter motor on way out (hit with hammer and try again?)

Anyway anyone give me some basic ideas on anything else I can check, look at, may likely be whjich can be checked quickly without many tools.

Thanks

John

How do I check it.

Can I hear it prime like a 200sx one?

He did say no lights etc. were left on and stereo played fine etc. so it seemed ok.

Yeah gonna grab some jump leads (is it the negative lead you do second? I can never remember)

Go for jump leads, if its the starter and the hammer trick doesn't work then try bump starting it.

Dunc.

think it was just a loose connection.... No sign of life although engine was turning over.

I just unplugged and re-connected all the important connections in the engine bay then foot on floor tried to start again (cos It would be flooded from my previous attempt to start).

4 turns of engine then started.... All been fine since then....

Was a bit surprised it was a 97 SRI and had a front strut brace as standard
