My wee bro has had his BMw 318 lying in our driveway for 6 months now. I finally got the thing started today and the engine seems good. He's put it in the paper for £250.
Problem is that the car wont move as the back brakes have totally siezed. When I put the power down all I get is burning clutch and the cars not budging.

Anybody got any ideas to get the thing moving????

You could try dragging it (tow start stylee) or hitting them really hard with a hammer works too.

jack the car up, take the wheel off.
soak the brakes in WD40 (and i mean SOAK)
leave for 20 mins
hit with large hammer around the calipers, short sharp taps is best. then around the hub etc to send vibrations through the hole set up.
WD40 again
then try.

I moved a VW that hadn't shifted in well over a year like this.

oh you're gonna want a mallet rather than a hammer. don't ask me why, just works better.
is it defo the brakes and not the handbrake?

bounce the bugger - stand in the boot if neccessary and bounce the git. or lift and drop, one or the other...

If it's a 318i it's probably gonna be just drums on the rear, or possibly discs and drums. Drums have a habit of seizing something awful.

I'd just replace the drums and the shoes, will cost you bugger all from your local motor factors :)

It'll be the handbrake thats siezed. Its only got drums on the back. I take it the drums will have to be removed. It will be a bitch to remove the drums tho.
I'll try it with a tow rope first on another car.

get to about 4500 to 5000 rpm... put in 1st...drop clutch (no pi55ing about... drop it!) put in reverse..drop clutch... put in 1st.. drop clutch... do this as quick as you can!

very very shortly you will hear a bang.... that is the rear shoes dropping off the drums.

go for a bit of a burn... 5000 rpm 2nd gear... left foot brake..for about 30 seconds..whist keeping throttle decked. they will be free now.

wecome to Bodgeit & Leggit motors .... but it works and costs fookall!!! as it going for sale...who cares.
