View Full Version : UKD1 - Who did the doughnut ?
Who was it who did the doughnuts in front of the grandstand. The crowd where boo'ing and throwing food at the marshalls' hehe when you got your telling off.
I was in fits - btw I don't know how he missed the armco on the 2nd doghnut !
What did they say to you ? your banned from future events ? ;)
One of the Irish D1 lads I think. Thought it was going to end in tears, but :notworthy :D
Proper crowd pleaser- should be encouraged ;)

WE WILL LOSE THE STANDS ,if the old skool brigade get their stand damadged
(BRSC) and the tyre smoke is a HS issue, the tyre shreading event got stopped for this reason
why not have a line of cars on the track, like syncronised swimmers, all donutting at the same time

lol - I still think for the restrictions such as twin drifting, tyre smoke etc that option should consider looking at other venues. Driftworks for example in brum, I would be interested to see what they are allowed to do in comparison.
if drifting is removed from silverstone (for such behaviour) they will be missing out bigtime if drifting goes more mainstream. :wack:
Thats up to the organisers but the one thing we all said was it would be good if they moved the venues around. Drifting over the same three corners season in season out will soon get a bit dull :)
Also give option an advantage living on its doorstep :P
i agree it would be better to have different venues like touring cars do.
New venues are bound to be part of forthcoming seasons. It is quite a feat that Option have secured Silverstone at the price they have. But securing new circuits is damn hard when you consider costs/insurance/suitable spectator areas/location/track layout...
Doing burnouts infront of the BRDC stand is not helping the events at the moment. I did a huge one at round 2 and was asked not to in the future. It was going to be mentioned at the drivers briefing but they forgot. Hopefully next time it will be reasserted.
It is a great crowd pleaser and puts a smile on my face everytime but we need to be careful to give away the correct image. I wonder if at other venues we should have a display area infront of the main stands. Then after each driver completes a competition run, or maybe when they win a round, a little "letting off steam" can take place for the crowds.

Interesting ...
In NASCAR only the winner gets to do a burnout/donut at the end for the crowd, and anyone else doing so get a bollocking .... I pretty dure of that.
Like you say its for the crowd, and if possible somebody should make them smile, but maybe only the winner at the end of the day - good compromise if you can find out who makes these sorts of judgements and suggest it.

Surely if Drifting is to make the mainstream its needs the prestige of places like Silverstone to up its profile, they must also be kept happy.

at rockingham, they don't donut at the end of the race, cos the diffs tend to explode. usually during the next race. the organisers asked them to do donuts, but the teams don't want to.
except the last race of the season  got a piccy somewhere of 8 of them all going at once

I was shouted at by the bird in the option Tshirt for doing a burnout infront of the stand. The first thing she said was "You were told in the briefing not to do burnouts in front of the stand" Well actually I wasn't but there you go.:wack:
Point of order though, the cheer I got when I lit em up was more than worth getting shouted at. At the end of the day, what I did was wrong, but the crowd were there to be entertained and I did just that by shredding my tyres for them.
IMO its that sort of behaviour that the crowds will keep coming back for. To see a driver waving to the crowd after his day is over is what you watch F1 for. To see a competitive car sitting on the spot burning out for the crowds enjoyment is something that UK drifting can use to improve its popularity and get more people interested in it.

At the risk of sounding all max power hehe
here here ! thats why we were entertained. Off to brum as well next time that sounds even better fun !

The winner (the bloke in the 4dr R34 :notworthy ) did a rolling burnout, all the way past the front of the stand, out the end, and into the pit lane. Noi-one had a go at him :D
Also, no-one had a go at the Lotus Carlton doing 3 of the biggest donuts I have ever seen by the top corner, but then it was a Lotus Carlton ......... :smitten:
But it looked like the bloke in the cossie got thrown out really early - double standards??
Well the guy in the Cossie didn't respect the rules I don't think, he was doing doughnuts around the mini roundabouts on the Silverstone access roads earlier in the day too.

that would be for donuting/drifting passed a car in the gravel. lol the safety van chasing him down the track

At the risk of sounding like a hypocrite.
The bloke in the cossie deserved to get thrown out.
Burnouts in front of the stand are okay as you are surrounded by armco and there is a fence and about 7 feet of elevation between you and the crowd. In other words its safe to burnout.
What is NOT safe is donutting near to a car which was in the gravel. If I was the driver that had dumped his car I would have been shitting it in case he lost it. He had the entire track to do that sort of thing and he chose to do it in front of the stand and to hell with the poor guy still in his car. Not on at all IMO.

The rules weren't there to ruin anyone's fun. yes, it is a crowd pleaser and even we love to see it but we need to keep silverstone happy and do our job. we didnt want it to get out of hand so tried to curb it at the beginning. the cossie driver had a talking to should we say but that was because of the antics in the car park etc. there were no double standards either as far as i'm aware. you might notice that we weren't so enthusiastic to do our job after people started shouting at us and throwing stuff at us. we were just doing what we were meant to and that was a bit harsh. it wasnt our choice. but, i can see where you were coming from. we were also under the impression that it was mentioned in briefing but as we have now found out, it wasnt. again, sorry if it completely ruined anyone's day but it had to be done.
Hey your bound by the rules no ones having a pop at anyone just saying that things could have been better. Everyone here knows you guys are doing your best at the end of the day you answer to silverstone tho not us !

Dont be silly - it didnt ruin anyones day at all. I think the whole crowd knew you werent just doing it to be killjoys :)
Did have a chuckle after the bloke in the red S13 finished doing his donuts and three staff ran over at once to give him a bollocking :whip: :D
Also, good show on not mentioning anything to the Winner after his final burnout - you gotta admit, that showed some incredible car control to spin it up all the way through there :)
I thought the marshalls did an excellent job on the whole

damn. just wrote a big reply and it wiped out!! grrr.
anyways, thans for saying that. it's good that our efforts are appreciated at sometime. believe it or not it is a hard days organisation and work for the marshalls and as for Option and those more involved its a lot of work put into the day before hand. It's a long day and to get moaned at at the end of it is not exactly morale boosting.
as for the 3 of us running to the red car...well, that was a bit OTT. wasn't planned and we didnt mean to single him out. poor bloke!! sorry!! as for Julian too, even though it isnt encourage i think by that point we were tired of telling people the same thing - there is only so many times you can tell people not to do something! all we can do is ask! i guess Julian was the winner and it was the end of the day etc. and yeah, it was awesome
oh well, we do our best and you know what they say, you can't please all of the people all of the time, and you can't please any of SXOC any of the time :wack: just kidding like. :D

Speak to the mods on here and they will support that  ;)
Top work, see ya next time round

Thing is most people can control it if they do donuts and burnouts in the pits or by the stands but drivers who cant might try and copy them. I know its :ghey: but the drivers can do what they want on the track. Sorry if we told any of you off- we got told off by Silverstone

Thats fair enough I think, I'm not too hot on donuts really :wack: so I wouldnt have tried, too scared of wrapping the car up.
