I recall some posts months ago about doing car work on the stand over the weekend... and can't remember the outcome  :wak:
I guess that anything involving jacking the car is out of the question, but how about the simpler things that us 'spanner-numbties' could do but aren't confident enough to start without having an experienced person nearby ;)
On the 'overallls thread' I've asked if someone can help me remove the charcoal filter... and it got me thinking about other things we could do easily...
How about...
* Checking the timing
* Checking compression
* Fitting a dump valve
* Fitting a boost gauge
Any thoughts?
Fitting my Nismo S Tune suspension kit at Billing is under consideration   :D
You could jack the car up using a board on the grass to rest the jack on?

I think thats a great idea if people can be ar$ed.
Just try and do it before anyone gets too drunk, lol

Guess i'll be bringing my tools then :D
Just to add I think this is a brilliant idea. I think it would be great for some of us to help the n00b's get some basic stuff done to their cars for free, and also possibly get them into a bit of DIY modding themselves.
It would also show everyone else what a great club we are and how helpfull as a group we are to each other :)

I won't be in my 200 so i've got loads of boot space for tools (planning on bringing as many as i can fit in). I'll throw in the timing gun and the compression tester in case anyone fancies having a go.

As long as we got the pipes, I dont see why not!

I plan to fit a volvo/saab intercooler towards the end of the year s would like to help and see what's involved :D
Same goes for timimg and compression testing... It's a simple thing, but not something I've done solo yet.
Don't have many tools, but I caould bring a flip chart pad and make a "What's happening.." list to hang next to the Hungry***** :wack: :D
Ill stand near the car and point in a knowing manner!!
I'll do the same, only without the knowing manner :wack:
If I can be of any help though I'll certainly join in - I'm enthusiatic, if not exactly talented, so I can hand out spanners and hold things.
Good idea, I'll bring timing gun and comp tester... It's a doddle realy.

Fitting my Nismo S Tune suspension kit at Billing is under consideration
That shouldnt be a big deal...
Ally, sorry to have rather hi-jacked your thread. Think it would be a good idea for other stuff to get done as well, so why not :)
Thanks for all the offers of help - MORE WELCOME ;)
Looks like I'll be needing to buy more beer
One thing worries me slightly - jacking the car......
Can't see the ground is going to be very hard, and doubt we'd get on tarmac.
Anyone bring sone short planks or boards to make it more stable ??? Ta :)

Still worried about the ground, and jacking the car

I'll attempt it
(as long as we can rope some people into Helping to fit My Apex FMIC (assuming Bren gets them back in stock in time ;) ))
Nah, I'll help regardless. Just don't trust me with power tools :wack:
 Cheers Matty

There are areas of hard standing around the place, might not be near where we camp or the show stand though. You could do the work outside the toilets, there's a pretty big area of concrete at the front of them..... or shift all the big wheelie bins and use the area they stand on.
id be happy to help out wherever i can with what ever i can and if someone fancies showing me how to do a compression test and timing check i would be very greatful!
 Cheers Matty

just throw a big sheet of wood (or 2 if you're jacking up in 2 places) into the car boot before you pack it and use them to jack up on...

well if we have all the tools there to do one set then i cant see why we cant do 2 :)
heres a quick list of tools we need:
2x/4x axel stands
decent trolley jack
decent sized socket set
wd40 ;)
a breaker bar
a long socket wrench
some spanners (10/12/13/17/19/21 i think)
a mallet in case things need a bit of extra persuading to move :smash:
anything i might have missed ? feel free to add to the list :)
im guessing that Andy's nismo suspension come with top mounts so we wont need to remove the old ones ?
are we fitting adjustable rear arms as well ?

off my list i can bring:
a breaker bar
a long socket wrench
a socket set (altho having a few of these will help in case we do more than one corner at a time)
a mallet
oh i forgot to add a flat blade screw driver to the list, but i keep one of them in the car anyway ;)
Nismo kit is complete, so no rear arms or anything for me :)
Skyline Matt is bring a jack, and some axel stands hopefully, I'll have sockets and breaker bar.
Slightly worried about hard standing, anyone got a couple of planks lol?
Should we set a time when we're going to do this - say 2pm saturday or something so everyone knows whats going on????

Both are going to be REALLY hard without a hairdryer (unless it's VERY hot :( )
Dave
hot water maybe?
hot water maybe?
Perhaps, but it'd have to be pretty damn hot, you never know, it might be a scorcher :)
Dave
well we can try and if not hey ho, its a pretty small job compared to most so if it doesnt happen so be it, there are others wih greater needs than mine! :)

Happy to help, done both of mine - like Dave said though, you really do need a hairdryer, or some very hot (almost boiling) water, to soften up the adhesive before you can shift them. It's then a question of using finger and thumb nails to get rid of the sticky stuff :)
Can anyone bring a voltmeter, or something suitable for testing coilpacks please ??
Suspect one of TAC's is a bit dodgy, and would be good to get it sorted.
Ta :)

I might make an appearance on Saturday (never driven the car anywhere near this sort of distance, so I hope my rattly engine doesn't finally pack in 300 miles from home  ), so I'll bring a multimeter.
I don't think you can put it across the coil output though (way too high a voltage).
so I'll bring a multimeter.
Thats probably what I meant :rolleyes:me and electrics = lol
Be good to see you if you make it down.
Andy
I'll be parked on someone else's stand (no space left with SXOC), but would anyone mind helping me fit a Walbro if I bring it along? Might not be a bad thing that the car is well clear of the hungry *****.... :D If so, just tell me what tools to bring.
I'll bung in my "professional" crimping kit then
Thanks Graham - I'll be there on Saturday, and will try and grab you early, so as not to impede the drinking time :D
Cheers

Ack - Bren isn't coming, so I won't get the pump in time. Hence no fitting required, but the offer was very much appreciated. Don't suppose anyone is heading to Billing via Bren's place?
