View Full Version : Conedodgers on 24th
Who's coming to conedodgers on the 24th in Andover then?
I guess lots of people are heading to billing, (or bug jam!) but I need to get my drifting fix after missing the last one due to having to go to work :wack:
I'll be there for my first session in months and i'm determined to actually be able to get sideways by the end of the day as i'm appauling. I'm really looking forward to it, should be fun. :D
I am trying to go :D
I should be there, I need a few more spare tyers though :D
I'll be there for the first time trying to drift in about 8 months! I'm shit but fingers crossed learn a thing of two!

The starion is gone, sold for a BIG profit!!
We have a new toy.....
I'll be there too. It will be my first event and I've never tried drifting before. Hopefully I'll start to get the hang of it during the day :)
Will be pretty knackering driving from Cambridge and back, so I'll have to take it easy at Billing on the Sunday :D
See you all there!
James.

I'll be there Dan :). Need to go on a tyre scrounge this weekend though...
Declan: How many cars are you expecting?
No  :(
Too much work. Gutted because I was really looking forward to it.

ill be there on on sat and gona go to Billing on sunday :)
anyone wan do a sarfmimms convoy to billing in the a.m??
hates, no need for helmets mate :)
cheers LexDoriDatsun
Same here, Conedodgers Saturday, Billings Sunday...
Excellent, saves me having to fork out for a helmet for the missus then :D :D :D
I'll probably be there, but I might not be driving. It's a bit close to UKD1 and if I start getting used to doing an event every weekend, it'll start getting expensive!
Whether I'm driving or not, if anyone wants any hints/tips with their drift technique, give me a shout.
i'll be there too. Cant wait... :D
Reading all the write ups about birmingham wheels is making me extra keen.
I'm getting excited now as i'm desperate for practice and all the events at the weekend have made me even more keen than normal. Whats the plan for the day, will there be bits for newbies like me, and will there be the high speed corner set ups etc?
I'm just disappointed I wont have all my mods done until the weekend after. I guess it's a chance to see what difference there will be from drifting a standard car to a fully specced one.

Calm down everybody :whip: ....relax....deep breaths....don't all go getting too excited now..... :D
Yes we have ANOTHER drifting event on, you lot are going to be addicted at this rate, take the pills don't get too excited now or you'll be blowing it all in the first five miniutes
Looks like we have some drift virgins this time round, so we need to go easy on them we don't want them losing their cherries in amongst too much excitement now :smitten: , we might end up with far too many drift days :notworthy .
About 14 are booked in so far, 20 is the limit'ish. I think the roundabout will be in by popular demand
Ok im definatly in cptsideways if you havnt already added me :)
Ill pay on the day this time if thats ok with you :)

Declan, i`m booked but I can`t make it, I`m going to santa pod for the weekend for lots of beer and drag racing(not at the same time :wack: )
Hi Declan, do you need me to book on the website? Or have you already got me down?
Mark - I'm gonna be tired but should make it to Santa pod in the evening :wack:

I've not you got you down, but there is room just. Nearly up to 20 cars.
20 cars sounds like quite a lot.
Do you think the queues could get a bit long?
Perhaps if people were called out in turn by their car/sticker number for each turn then it would help people get the most time on the track.
So if someone had to change tyres after their go, they could to their pits, do so and go back on when their number is next called out, rather than having to join the back of the queue once the tyres were fitted.
Know what I mean?
can we not clear the next part down a bit and put a figure 8 on it? I had a quick look last time and there seemd to be enough room for a small technical course.

We could use the other area, but it will need to be marshalled properly, perhaps a figure 8 down there would be OK. It'll also need a sweep so I'll bring the brush along if there are any volunteers :D .
I was thinking about everyone doing a single lap, a bit like the D1 rounds, means you'll have to be more precise on each run  to make the most of it as opposed to current gung-ho techniques :whip: , it'll keep us all going round all the time.
Or we need someway to get everyone to do only only x number of laps, I know it only seems like you've done 3 laps but standing waiting for the next run those 3 are often extended to 5, 6, 7 or 8 laps :whip: . We all do it once the adrenalin is going.
What do you think guys  ?

As a newbie, more time the better on track, I found @ Silverstone I spent more time waiting for a turn rather than learning the art of DORI  :wack:
At Silverstone I found that the biggest problem was the length of time between each run. It was so long that I forgot a lot of what I had learned the previous run, so I didn't improve at my usual rate.
A three lap limit enforced somehow is a good idea however. That'll save people's tyres better too, since they won't be subjected to so much overheating.
The slalom usually seems underused on the days I've been to. People could get more track time if it were beter utilised. Not that I've got any idea how to use the space better.
I'd say 2 or 3 laps is probably a good compromise seeing that at Silverstone you get one run then have to queue up again.
in all honesty a single lap would be a bit pants. especially with 20 cars. You drift around the track and come back and by the time its your turn again you have lost the feeling of the last time you went out, making it especially hard for first timers. I think 2 or 3 laps would be ideal. I dont mind waiting as long as I can get a good go at the drifting when its my turn.
Regarding marshalling. Can we not go in groups of 2 or 3 and marshall eachother on the 2nd bit of tarmac?

Excellent idea carl, I'm well up for a figure of eight. and i know lex will be to. That's 3 of us from the start.
Declan, I have been thinging about things.....
2-3 laps is the way to go, but strictly enforced. Put a marshall in the way, and tell everyone at the briefing that the marshall will be there.
Take the shalom away and extend the track over. I think that some of us are plenty good enough that we could go out 2 on track at a time, as long as the course layout lets it. And the Marshalling is strict enough. It's a little dangerous being so close to the main course. I think that the best way for people to learn drifting would be to have a donut and a figure of 8.
There should be enough of us going that are regulars that you will be able to have a couple of marshalls on each course. If they replace cones that are knocked it will speed things up.
The donut can be over the other side where the figure of eight will be, if this also has 2 marshalls then it will be plenty safe enough. Practice of these will teach drivers everything, line, transition, correcting line, and holding a drift. And in a safer environment.

Well all good feedback lads, hows about this idea then.
1 lap of the circuit: But.....
Usual type course ending at the roundabout (several laps of, if you must) then double back round the course in the opposite direction to finish at the start finish area. So effectively two & bit laps & your tyres wear evenly too.
Also re the slalom course:
Make use of it until you can master it consistently, you can learn so much about car control especially anti arm flailing techniques, opp lock correction, throttle & clutch kick timing. I know it looks a bit basic but very few of you guys have mastered it.
OK & just to spice things up a bit shall we judge both courses?

Judging the course would be a little bit of fun.
But I still believe the shalom shouldn't be the main part, due to safety. And I think it shouldn't be there at all because everything it can teach you can also be taught on a figure of 8. The shalom is too tight for many of the car's, and it all happens so quick some really don't understand what is going on when they get it right!
I really think we should try it for thouse reasons.
The idea of the main course is excellent though. Doing a course to a roundabout, and then going around the course the other way is a great idea.

I like the sound of that, should be great fun. I also like the idea of a figure of 8, at the first Silverstone practice that had 2 cones which you could figure of 8 round and it felt like you could learn alot there. If the figure was bigger you could get higher speeds which would be cool.
I was a bit uneasy going into the roundabout quite fast while someone was on the slalom at the begining part of it. Especially those big cars where their back end comes right out towards the roundabout.
If we got rid of the slarlom on that part of the venue and made the course a bit bigger, we could fit another roundabout in the middle. It would be more like the drift world we see where the driver gets to choose slight variations of the course if they wish.
Kind of like this.

Ok - I think we'll include those ideas then.
Move the Slalom to the other area or make it a Fig 8 (subject to marshalling & a bit of sweeping up etc)
Main Course: R'bout in the middle & a R'bout at the return point, 1 lap out & back. So you get three r'bout sessions per lap & return over the course backwards & we get to judge it.
That sounds like fun!
This sounds like its going to be the best yet and I Can't Go

Hi Folk, on the forum at last. I should be there on Saturday with the Mazda hairdryer again.
Genjuro, do you want to travel up together as I'm in Portsmouth?
Have some videos of the 9/7 event but average quality and don't know how to upload them.

dec,
i happily help with any sweeping :)
defo think that sticking to a strict 3 lap rule would be the best way to get some good practise and keep it flowing well for everyone
anyone wana convoy down wiv a few of us from Norf london??
lex where are you gonna start from? s.mimms?
Kneecapper, can you put it onto a CD? If you can then stick it on CD and ill grab it off ya and put it on some web space sat night.
The 2 roundabout idea sound cool, at north weald they had up to three cars on at a time and although there was very rarely any cue because if it you kept on having to stop because someone had spun infront of you and although there was meant to be 1/3 of a lap between cars in often ended up looking like team drifting with everyone bunched up.
figure of 8 would be a good idea too, should be able to get some good practice, although last time i went it was difficult to get to the slalom area because of the quee for the course....
Should be very good. Cant wait.

:( Gutted
Can't make it now :annoyed: :annoyed: :annoyed: :censored:
Tried to book too many things into the same weekend and money won't allow it. (thought I was going to get a tax rebate!!)
So have fun guys, let us know how all the new ideas work out....and get some videos! It good to see people's progress after each event. Perhaps give a prize to the most improved drifter of the day (i.e beer!)
Declan, can you keep my fee for the august one? Thanks
Enjoy it guys!
Dan
I think 1 lap isn't enough... and I think a figure 8 is a great idea. One reason 1 lap is a bad idea is that time is lost at every car change. Fewer laps = more car changes and more time lost
If the course exit leads back to the end of the queue that'll save time - as will lightning car changes
Judging is a great idea!

Just to let you know that the chaps at Banzai magazine have asked me to write 300-400 words on the event and to take a few pics. I have some good pics from the last Andover day and will take more this weekend. So I can write some driver profiles it'd be useful to have some info on each of you and a picture of each car & driver. I'll do some kind of form to get your info. Also it'd be good to have a couple of group shots
I suggest we do all the static shots at lunchtime, if that's acceptable to Declan. Anyone who wants to be anonymous or to have their number plate obscured please let me know - I've been on Sprints where company cars have been used and the number plates covered in gaffa tape...

And now there's the chance to be in a mag? Double gutted :(
nice one bolide. the pics were great last time and im sure they will look excellent in a mag. Its nice to see the mags starting to take a real interest in drifting. :)
Just out of interest whats the policy regarding what clothing we have to wear? The reason i ask is i know places like Silverstone dictate you need to cover all limbs, but it looks like it will be really hot tomorrow, so how do you stand on people turning up in shorts and t-shirts?

There are no restrictions on what you can wear, it's only classed as a fun non competetive event & you are the only one on the expanse of tarmac.
