Mate of mine is looking into one of these he can get at a good price. Has anyone had any experience of them or anything? I assume theyre just a motorway eater - are they completley impracticle for just driving round town?
I had one as a 'courtesy' car a while back, was nice enough. A bit bland maybe but comfortable and quiet. fine for driving round town or motorway munching. The one I had was the base model 'S'.
I had two, a 2.0 Sport and a V5 auto. Under no circumstances buy the 2.0 Sport. Not ever. Not even if you think it will be ok :smash: Slow, noisy, irritating.
So, fool that I am, I traded it for a V5 auto. Lovely - fast, smooth, drank petrol like it was going out of fashion (20 normally 28 on the motorway being very careful). In the end though it shared it's biggest fault with the 2.0 - Rattles! Parcel shelf, door locks, cup holder, bits of dash all chirping away together. Dealer totally uninterested...
Oddly enough, for all their much vaunted build quality, every VW / Audi I've come across was a determined rattler. The 200SX is completely rattle free :D
Had quite a bit of experience driving a Seat Toledo V5, which is a reskinned Bora. Nice car, well built, quite quick, reasonable handling

Even the V6 four motion made me fall asleep
Nice cars - I had two in a row... OK, they're a bit sensible and boring, but they're (mostly) refined, well built, quick and they handle.
The first one I had (a 2.0 Sport) was totally standard and was ok, nothing overly special, then a UPS van hit me head on in a country lane :

The second one I had was a bit special. Another 2.0 Sport, but this one had been breathed on by VW... It was yellow, had big alloys, and before I had it, was driven around the country on a transporter and displayed at shows - so it was very highly polished and with very low mileage... It was marginally faster than the first one, but they'd obviously tweaked the suspension setup (presumably to make it look lower/better when sat on a stand) and it really handled well - far better than any car I've had up until my BMW 3.
In short, it's a bit different and cheaper than a Golf, but essentially the same car... I'd advise you don't go for the 2.0 though, it is a rough engine - the new diesels are very refined and torquey though

 Bet that was a brown pants moment FatBoy?
A little bit yeah... Happened exactly a week before I got married - I was standing in the lane having a chunk of glass picked out me face by a paramedic thinking about what the photos would look like :wack:
I'd like to say, the Bora is definately safe - van was probably doing 25 when he hit me, his wing crumpled (fiberglass - bloody itchy) but the upper wing/light unit hit and pushed in my A-pillar which I headbutted.
I couldn't believe it - if he'd taken his foot off the brake he'd have missed me!
