Today as part or my job i had to assemble a brand new £3000 boat, a Zodiac classic and fit it with a brand new £3500 yamaha four stroke engine ready for ferrying people to the aquariums new toy a submarine. Anyway i was on a half day and i ended up staying an extra hour to get this boat done so that all the big cheeses could go out this afternoon and play in the three boats.
Just got a call form the guy who helped me and it seems that on the way to a bay in the area the guy who was driving the new boat was pushing it too hard and the new screws undid themselves and the brand new engine on its maiden voyage bounced off the transom and into about 20 metres of water....... :indiff: the boss failed to take the GPS system with him and as such couldnt push the man overboard button and get an instant way point so we couldnt find it again. They sent out our divers to search but only have approx co-ordinates for it.
So tomorrow we have to go looking for it, im either going to be skippering the boat or underwater all day and god knows how much trouble there will be if we dont find it! Im not looking forward to it im afraid especially as i played such a major part in assembling everything! Do you think i should clear my desk first thing........

Do you think i should clear my desk first thing........

Depends on two things.

What you did wrong (loose bolt?) and how closely the boss followed the hallowed procedures.

Luckily, my boss makes even more cock ups than I do, as a general rule.

bolts were done up properly, we even joked about loosing the engine but after the incident he apparently said that the bolts should have been locked in place.... i can see his point but maybe he (as an apparently competant boat handler...) should have noticed it wasnt done in the hour he spent on the boat playing with the trim etc..... he wasnt following the breaking in schedule either as i understand. :annoyed: I think if we can find the engine tomorrow we might be able to save it, if not im going out after work to have a look coz if i can find it its money in the bank lol .....maritime salvage and all that! lol

thats the way i look at it, in fact its worked out well for me as im going to be out and about no matter what tomorrow, if i find the engine i might just mark it and come back for it later! think of the mods i could do with a couple of grand! lol

Sorry to hear about that mate, hope you find it.
Dont worry your not the only one whose had a bad day.
I work for HSBC, today one of our regular dlivery guys told me that he'd just been over to Lloyds TSB to deliver some stuff. When he walked into their office (apparently a large office with about 80 odd computers) the entire place was smoking.
An electrician doing a minor job had screwed something up and sent a massive power surge through the office and managed to blow up  every single computer!
Knowing what its like to work in this type of office and being a systems admin guy i'm guessing that its going to cost Lloyds a hell of a lot of money to sort out and replace all the work stored on the computers.
That electrician must have cacked his pants!
