thing that annoys me is that they say "road deaths cut" over recent years when

a) Statistics show they havent and
b) They take that "cut" (which in reality is an increase) to be solely bought about by the use of speed cameras - nothing to do with the massive amount of money going into car safety these days - you know, like more than one car getting a 5 star safety rating

They just twist, bend, and represent stats in isolation to suit them - rather than presenting the whole picture to the public.

I don't disagree with his School road thing at 20mph but the rest is a load of shite.

yeah I agree with that 20mph thing too... I just wish they didn't BS us because everyone knows it's manipulated data yet they stick to their guns which means we either believe them (which makes them think we're stupid and they can continue lying) or we have to pull them up on it and then they get offended and stubborn. I don't see how they get away with it.

I can think of plenty of dangerous roads without speed cameras on, and also I can think of plenty of roads that aren't cleary sign posted.. dual carriage ways which are 30mph and have speed cameras for example. Grrr.

Someone needs to run him over at great speed :wack:

Recently he tried to blame middle age English bikers for the increase in biker deaths in North Wales

This guy is clearly a buffoon

I don't think his wife gives him any http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/otn/funny/smileysex5.gif so he has to take his frustrations out on the motorist!

Leads you to think, how fast does he actually drive?

To my knowledge MikeGSI will be able to correct me but there are no speed cameras, or virtually none in the County Durham region, there are only mobile ones, I think Durham constabulary need a pat on the back for a three things
a) mobile cams work, they catch you, everyone knows where static cams are and slow accordingly
b) the money they have saved in installing static cams has gone into traffic police that actually do save lives as opposed to static cams
c) best of all, they are able to buy Mitsi EVO 7 squad cars, go on boys in blue

LMAO

I would just like to point out that the SXOC in no way condones any threats or insinuations made against this Chief Constable, who has a reputation for tracking down people who threaten him on bulletin boards and taking action.

In light of that, if anyone feels the need to edit their posts...

The guy needs a lesson in basic reasoning, esp. the rules of deduction and inference.

But not in PR.

In that case he is a petty, vindictive, narrow-minded idiot, who needs to broaden his views in order to take into account the huge rse in drunk driving related deaths!!!

Can he tell us EXACTLY how many of those deaths were speeding related? Probably not  Probably less than 15%

I'm all for a 20mph limit past schools, but ALL the time??? How about just during school hours? Or would that be too smart for that narrow-minded waste of our tax money called Brunstrom  What an obsessed twat! Can't he see there are other causes of road deaths? I bet it's all those drug crazed welshies ;) causing all the deaths

"3,431 people died as a result of no speed cameras on roads in Britain last year" He said, did he... How can he quantify that? He can't! He is, therefore, a liar! In actuality, 3,431 people died on britains roads last year because:
a) Poor road surfaces cause more accidents
b) Poor driver awareness is going unpunished as there are less traffic police
c) Poor driver ability is going unpunished as there are less traffic police
d) Drunk / drugged drivers are going unpunished as there are less traffic police
e) Aggressive drivers are going unpunished as there are less traffic police
f) Badly maintained (dangerous) vechicles are rife on our roads, as there are less traffic police

Tackle those, and you'd see deaths reduced Mr Brunstrom, you arrogant twat.

In addition,

I feel that such a single minded approache to road safety will undoubtedly lead to increased road deaths, as we are seeing now :(

He may spout on about death rates being reduced at camera sites - but that it because people slow down for them, then drive like lunatics somewhere else, or else are too drunk to drive quickly and trigger the camera, but plough into a line of kids down the road.

And what about those badly maintained cars, being driven by drunk/drugged drivers? In my local paper this week was a story about a local kid in a fiesta, who killed a 16yr old passenger because he was driving under the influence, in a car that most likely wasn't fit to be on the road! He lost it on a tight bend, and came off. I expect he wasn't speeding either!

Go on Brunstrom, go tell the parents of the dead passenger how your speed camera's will stop that from happening!

Also, I was walking through central London this weekend. My girlfriend and I counted how many drivers didn't have a seatbelt on.... Something like 1 in 6 or 7!!!! Bl**dy hell Brunstrom, if you want to cut deaths, introduce a camera that catches people without seatbelts, and you'll cut deaths by at least 1% straight off the mark!

If only words could describe just how stupid you really are

...because no-one wants to run over a child.

but running over an adult is fair game?

and how is the fact 11 people were murdered ANY relation to RTA's?

I thought Top Gear summed it up pretty well by saying it was a routine police stop that caught Peter Sutcliffe aka The Yorkshire Ripper.

You see hardly any traffic coppers anymore, just grey boxes at the side of the road. I take it they'll soon be fitted with breathalysers??

People driving 5 metres from the car in front on a motorway, or blatting around in the wet are far more dangerous than a cautious driver doing 80mph on a clear road (or even someone doing 35mph in a 30 in certain locations - obviously not down a street or outside a school)...

It's the aim to bollock people after committing the 'crime', rather than prevent the speeding in the dodgy area that bothers me.

John (clean licence so far, very slow driver)

I used to get pulled over all the time in the first few years after passing my test.

In the past 4 years, I've been pulled over ONCE. And that was by a copper who was tailgaiting me, trying to force me to speed, when the conditions were so bad I wouldn't!

I could be uninsured, untaxed and un-mot'd, driving a stolen ringed car, toting a variety of firearms, several kilo's of class-a's, and driving 3" off the back end of every other car on the road - but I would NOT HAVE BEEN STOPPED in the past 4 years...

Even when I was got by the most pointless camera in the world, on the border of a 70 to 40 change on a perfectly safe DC in Essex (I didn't see the one sign before the camera, and got done at 56mph, in the dry and daylight) , nobody asked for my proof of insurance etc! Just my license and a cheque!

Utter insanity!

Both Jackal and John --

I must say I've been followed and encourage to speed by unmarked police before now too - no ticket, just told off but still it was wrong to try and get me to race by sitting right on my bumper in a low gear...

Anyway we need to get shot of speed limits and start pulling people for dangerous driving. Oh and adults should be walking into roads, nor should kids but it fair to say they don't have as much road experience. Roads are for vehicles, or at least they should be IMO.

Waste of space w@nkerI've had a police car sit on my bumper before. If it happened again now and I was still in the cavalier (or another shitter, not my S13) I'd just brake hard enough to make them run in the back, then sue them for something.

Agree 100% with Jackal. This bloke is overtaking Michael Winner in the "you need your face panning in" stakes.

I've just had a look at the Gov. stats on RTA's ( click (http://www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_transstats/documents/page/dft_transstats_029323.hcsp) ). For the past 10 years the number killed were :

1993 - 3,814
1994 - 3,650
1995 - 3,621
1996 - 3,598
1997 - 3,599
1998 - 3,421
1999 - 3,423
2000 - 3,409
2001 - 3,450
2002 - 3,431
2003 - 3,508

So that would be a national increase then ( I can't find the stats by region ).

Brunstrom - you are an idiot.

Saw a guy driving yesterday holding his mobile and not wearing a seatbelt. How would a speed camera help in these circumstances providing the guy spots the yellow boxes.

It's been said before, but what causes road deaths is bad driving and this may or may not be speeding depending on the circumstances. We need more traffic police, enforcing the rules sensibly and not automated processes that seem to be revenue orientated.

More lives would be saved by improved driver training, but of course that costs money.

Brunstrom - you are an idiot.

It looks like the number have been on the rise since 2001

Which means that BRUNSTROM is a LIAR. No argument there, he is a LIAR and therefore not fit to hold his position in the Police force - by anyones standards (except possibly his own).

Go on then Brunstrom, if you like surfing public forums, I challenge you to explain how the road deaths for 2003 were lower than for 2002! And if you try, I will mock you like the pathetic brown-nosed beeeiatch of Blair that you really are! Go on lapdog, jump up and bark at us if you dare!

Of course, if you choose not to say anything, it will be noted down and may be held against you in a court of law... :p :****er:

EDIT: As way of a non (honest) threat, if I ever see you around my neck of the woods, you'd better not stop for long enough for me to catch you... Given that you won't debate the facts properly, I'd like to drill them into you in a way you might understand... :smash:
