I may have mentioned this a long time ago when lurking around but for my Motorsport Engineering uni course i have to complete a project car for a designated sport. Now rather than taking apart the Formula Vauxhall in the worshop for the millionth time i have (only just) managed to convince my tutor to let me build a drift car.

The planned modifications will be centered totally around suspension, brakes etc. The engine wont really be played with as the time (and budget) wont allow.

I have to submit the final proposal and budget over the weekend and just wanted to ask people whether i may have missed anything?

Uprated LSD
Coilovers with pillowball mounts
Front and Rear strut braces
ARBS front and rear
Pineapple bushes
Uprated discs and pads

Does anything else need to be added to the list (apart from interior stuff as got most of that sorted).

I know people will probably say that all the modifications will not help a beginner drift etc but it is not being built for a beginner. The car will be tested and asessed as a to whether it is a well put together/setup drift car by good driver once the project is complete.

Thanks for looking and for any advice.

Tom

Wheels and tyres!

My school projects were never as good as this

Depending on your style I would also look into modifying the handbrake.
Also consider upgrading the hoses, calipers and brake master cylinder on the brake system.
If it's an S13/14 replace the bush in the steering column for better steering feedback.
Maybe consider moving to an electrical steering pump instead of the crank powered one. The standard setup can be prone to awful lag sometimes on very fast direction changes.

Interior wise i've recently found harnesses are very important.

This would also be an excellent story, do you have any plans for fully documenting this? Be nice maybe to see if a magazine would run a feature on you ending with putting the car into the UKD1 series...

Hey Tom :D
Good idea from yeager to keep any documentation you make (or just make doubles of your work??)

Yeh, documentation and lots of piccies have to be done as part of the assignment so it will all be sorted. Some kind of feature at the end would be cool and I would love to get it into D1 next year but ill need some practice. Thanks for the tips, some kind of quick rack steering would be handy. BTW the car is going to be an S13 simply for budget and availability of parts.

Cheers mate. Unfortunately i was going to buy James' (driftaholic) car until the crash so now im stuck. Got around 2k to spend on the car (maybe a bit more if i can find a cheap s14) with 2k on mods (suspension only). Anyone know of anything suitable?

If I can't get to grips with drifting soon, you can buy mine
Got enough kit on it to do well, but lacking in the talent department and getting a bit disillusioned with it all.

Thanks for the offers but managed to pick myself up a nice s14 on saturday for not alot of money.

Is Apex performance the best place to go for parts or is there anywhere cheaper?

Nice one  Hope your project goes well  .

I haven't found anywhere better than Apex, as their prices are great, but it's the customer service that does it for me. Excellent IMHO :notworthy

To be fair to the other traders on the board, I haven't tried them as yet, but I'd imagine they'll be pretty good places to shop too.

Also, the for sale section (and Ebay) will be your friend if you're after secondhand bits.

Oh yes, gonna be checking that alot. I need to provide a detailed budget (2k so far just on suspension) so if i can buy second hand parts then that will save me a bundle hopefully.

So it went ok on sat then mitch?
