Silly question but my stainless zorst pipework is covered in a small layer of rust. Spoke to the garage that supplied and they say that its 'low grade' stainless and it will rust.

Surely its mild steel i've been palmed off with?

there are varing grades of stainlesness... but none should rust... they will gather surface corrosion though...

More likely to snap at the welds than rust in my experience...

unless dirty saws or drills have been used or the stainless is next to non stainless, then you could get cross contamination of the stainless resulting in galvanic action or bimetallic corrosion

It will probably be surface rust, try rubbing it with a scouring pad, see if it cleans it up a bit. Is it magnetic? You can get magnetic stainless but it is usually of a lower grade to "non-mag" stainless and will react easily hence the surface rust.

It's not always cheap stainless that will shatter....

The best grade of stainless is actully quite brittle, so much so you can't make a knife from it cos it wont hold a sharp edge.....

Hmmm not quite true and me is well p*ssed (too the point of typing this several times). Hard materials will allow a sharp edge but as they are extemely britttle will lose it very fast. Tough materials on other hand will not alllow a sharp edgebut will hold their shape easily I'm off too bed so if any one needs any more info you will have too wait for at least 12 hrs ;)
