There's quite a few on Kelkoo for £40 but has anyone bought something they can recommend?

Preferebly with R/Control (but not necessarily).

Also, they all seem to want you to buy a SCART cable for £12.95 on top which is a BIG rip-off.

Where do you get SCART cables from as an alternative?

Also, I've had this annoying itch if anyone can help me with that.

Oh, and one of the back doors on my Punto sticks a bit... :wack: :wack: :wack:

Argos still do the Alba for 29.99 - multiregion out of the box, remote, and also plays MP3s, and JPEGs. Bought one for father in law last Christmas, thought was a bargain.

Would definitely recommend a Toshiba. I have the SD-220E and it is fantastic. :)
They've now brought out a newer model the SD-330 which is the same with a few extras, bought one for about £60 from amazon a few months back for my mums birthday. Dont get a Goodmans though cos that's what my mum used to have but as soon as the one year warranty was up it wouldnt even recognise that there was a dvd in the player!!!! (and if it did play one then you could barely hear it for all the clicks and whirls the player used to make  )
I know this is a bit more than the ones you were looking at but it is DEFINITELY worth it.
Hope this helps.

I got the SD220 too a long time back and I'm still using it, good solid player, really nice picture. My parents got a Goodmans one too, and that broke as well. It just wouldn't eject. Got it fixed, did it again. Was a bit noisy too. So I got them to stump up for a Pioneer one and that works perfectly and is silent. Set your budget around £70-100 and get a proper name one, budget players aren't built to last, how many do you see in the supermarket with broken trays and stuff? You'll save a lot of hassle getting a good name one as it'll last for ages/ever!

(and fussy sods like me can tell the difference in picture quality)

Lorien,

The website says that this DVD provides "Multi-Region Playback".

At the risk of sounding really dull, with this play DVDs from all regions?

Seems a bit good for a £35.00 DVD player!

Thanks,

Ripper.

Yep - it will play any DVD so you can get DVDs from America or Australia or wherever and play them. To be honest though, even if the DVD has a region set up nearly all of them can be cracked really easily - on the surround sound DVD system I bought for 100 notes from a supermarket it was merely a case of typing a code into the remote while the tray was open. ;)

here (http://www.richersounds.co.uk/index.php?f=itemlist.php&c=1201)

Depends what you mean by cheap.... £29 for cheap stuff and £50 for the multi reigon toshiba or £70 for a Cambridge one (these are excellent quality)

Multi region for £20 good enough for you? http://www.richersounds.com/index.php?f=itemdetl.php&p=205963

If you are watching it with a decent TV then a half decent SCART cable or S-video connector will get you better results, seriously.

Many thanks for all the replies. :notworthy

After many, many hours of deliberation (well, almost ;) ) I have decided to go for the £35.00 Multi-Region one from Yukumo.

I have considered all of the recommendations and have based my decision on the following:

1) I have a PS2 (thanks for the X-box suggestion, BTW  ) so can play DVDs but just fancy treating myself so I have more options

2) The Richer Sounds option (Toshiba etc.) looks good but I'll have to get my carcass to a shop - I don't 'do' shops!

3) At £35.00 the Yukumo is almost a disposable item - so it's worth a go.

4) Multi-Region appeals to me for some reason (mmm... foreign DVDs!) - the PS2 is only R2.

5) Yukumo is a well-known and respected brand :wack:

I shall be pleased to get flamed deluxe should Mr.Yukumo let me down in the future regarding this stylish product - I just hope it doesn't come to that... :indiff:

Mr Yakumo has never let me down after nearly 8 months of ownership, even surviving my Lord of the Rings marathons many times! :)

If you are after a not so cheapo DVD player but still cheap, you may consider the Toshiba SD330E. I got one of these from Safeways for £59.99 and read lots of good reviews about it. Think it had a RRP of £150 when it first came out or something stupid. It has a great picture and decent features and also a brand name if you are a bit of a snob like me who doesn't want something with an Alba badge or something under your telly  It is also a doddle to make multiregion as you simply download a file from the net, burn it onto a CD then put it the DVD player to upgrade the firmware, and thats it. Great player for not a lot of cash
