Hey guys,

Coupla questions for all you 'pros' out there.....

1) Oil should be changed every 3 or 4k miles?? Or more/less? And whats the recommended OIL to use? (and do you all do it yourselves? incl the Oil Filter)

2) Regarding Brakes:
a) Do you guys know which are the best brake discs and pads to buy for a standard S15 Spec-R which will soon be going down the exhaust, air filter and mapping route?? I dun wanna upgrade to a bigger brake kit.
b) Any recommendations for brake hoses and fluids etc??

3) Can you also recommend the best spark plugs to use?

4) Another thing.... Should i get Nissan to do the servicing or someone like Option or Torque Developments? And do i just change the Oil every 3-4k miles or actually get a service every 3-4k miles?? What do you guys do/recommend???

5) Ok this one is about the exhaust: especially for u STEVEC, when u got the 300bhp from changing ur exhaust and air-filter, did u change your exhaust manifold too?? I know u had the front pipe, de-cat pipe and full system...

6) Any of u guys gone down the Walbro Fuel Pump route? Is it worth doing it or not really? What do u actually achieve?

7) Last question..... :Plug: has anyone done anything so that you get boost in first gear? Can anything be done? Or is that just the way it is.... Cos have to wait for 2nd gear before boost kicks in at the moment. WOuld an AVC-R sort that out?

Sorry for all these questions peeps but i only have 1500 miles more to go before i reach the 3k mile mark. So need to prepare...... (first turbo car and all :ghey: ) hehee

Thanks to all who reply!!!!

Cheers,
aLeX

Almost all your questions are the same as for an s14 , same engine, same brakes , most likley same fuel pump.

Use a company you trust to service the car , no point in using nissan unless you trust them as the warrenty is not international.

I service my own but that is more because of the fact that my best mate is a nissan mechanic.

6k miles is what I tend to follow.

Brake pad, try ferodo DS2500 with dot 5.1 fluid, this should tighten it up.
I have just changed my rears for std ones. I need to do the fronts soon. before I sell her :wack:

I get plenty of boost in first gear

I have been told that my mods should give me 300bhp, the car has not been dyno'd but the arsedyno feels like about 300 ponies to me.

just front pipe exhaust and filter.

get stage one sorted out then look into fu el pumps and the like, you shouldn't need a fuel pump till you up the turbo size and have changed the intercooler etc.. if you are looking or these sorts of gains then speak to option for advice.the only reasonable hard tuned S15 that is publicly known in the uk is Non's one. circa 500bhp apparantly. Non works at option I believe...

is your car an auto or manual ?

get the full exhaust and decat with an airfilter sorted out and then look into why it aint boosting up, if it still doesn't. fitting the freeflowing stuff to it may sort it out though.

Most people will change oil every 3000. Fully synth.

IK24 or equivalent sparks.

AVC-R would certainly sort those boost issues.

just wondering why so often ?

My skyline was 6k miles, and that was tuned harder than the S15.

3k miles at the mileage I do would be rediculous

not bashing your answer just curious...

Cheers Lads!

I agree with Steve abt Why so often? But i have read about the oil being changed every 3-4k miles which is quite often then. But i guess if it's better for the turbo then 3-4k it is!!

I get plenty of boost in first gear

Hmm....maybe its the change of exhaust etc cos i read somewhere that there no boost in 1st, reverse and neutral!

But thanks once again!

Btw, how do you insert the QUOTES from someone else?? :Plug:

Thanks Nicely

I'll have to look into it, if htis is absolutely necessary then I'll be doing and oil/filter change every 5-6 weeks

As fo the quote
you click on the quote button {quote} ghsghjuz{/quote} but with square brackets..instead of the ones I used. (next to the P key on yuor keyboard

Don't think it absolutely necessary. Most people tend to do it cos the cleaner the oil the better on the turbo. If you can drain oil after 3k and it still be clearish, it probably didn't need it. Mine has always been black.

funny you should say that, I just went to check mine which is due a change fairly soo (going by my 6000 schedule) and the oil still looks reasonably fresh, even in a dark carpark, It certainly wan't black , Like I was expecting

so I'll stick to 6k for mine, but then I do 80-100 miles a day and it is mainly motorway. I also warm the car up before I boot it. so perhaps driving style also factors into wear and tear on oil..

I got 300 miles out of 50 litres the other day  I am becoming a grandad driver.. still £350 a month in fuel does that to you.

cheers

lol! know what you mean. I've been doing about 70-85 miles a day for the past year, the last three months on motorway. Averaging 28-30mpg. And that's booting it frequently. :D
