After being railroaded by the members to keep my car ;) :D and generally whingeing about the fact my mod money gets spent before I manage to actually order anything I have decided to do something positive about this.

I'm giving up smoking

So I need all your positive energy and loads of encouragement as this will be about the twnety five millionth time i've tried but I'm determined to do it this time.

Hereīs my story for what it comes to smoking.

I smoked from when I was 17 or 18 years old (Iīm now 26). I tried quitting several times but never smoked a ciggie faster in the morning than when I had quit in the evening.

Then once a few years ago I was drunk for 3 days. When I recovered I was feeling so sick and had absolutely no money. I just couldnīt even think of smoking a cigarette and had no money buying one. I then decided to quit and was a year without smoking.

My friends (can you call them friends) were so persistant in offering me ciggies that one time when I was drinking I did smoke one. From then on Iīve smoked a couple when Iīm drinking but havenīt smoked a single one when Iīm sober for 4 years now.

And I am sober most of the time :wack: .

My mom and my dad quit also (dad at least 5 years ago, mom this year). I think it is the best you can do to improve your health and also bank balance.

Best of luck!

Good luck mate

I quit after driving home one night and not being able to concentrate on the road as the pain in my chest was immense. I had to pull over and recover. I vowed to quit smoking that day

I still have the odd cigar every now and again mind.

good on you mate :) worth noting that your local primary care trust (nhs region) will have a quit smoking help center where you can get free NRT (nicoteen patchs etc) proper advice on how to use it (if you don't use it properly its not realy effective) and various other help including group or one to one sessions (can you tell my ex was a smoking prevention specialist :D)

anyways theres some great info and resources out there so i recomend you use them!

Best decision you'll make....I gave up two weeks ago and am still going strong. I took a small loan out in order to buy my 200, which I have now done and knew I couldn't really afford the payments if I did smoke again....have not been tempted in two weeks. Whenever I feel like one, I just look out the window and remind myself what I get to drive home in every day.

Best thing is, I can afford the repayments on the loan, and mod the car....and take th emissus out for a meal every now and then....all because I quit smoking....

Good luck with it....if you want it enough you will do it without any problems.

Good on you :D

Very glad you're keeping the car - best of luck with giving up smoking.

Just think, not only will you be healthier, richer, etc, you'll also have longer to enjoy the car  - Stopping smoking can increase your life by up to 10 years! (http://www.bupa.co.uk/health_information/html/health_news/240604smoke.html)

I've told everyone I'm giving up after Billing...will be the thrid time I've tried it...hopefully this time it'll last longer than a couple of months :whip: :)

OK had a pretty good start today. Was climbing the walls by lunchtime and managed to stop myself from going and buying some. Did well untill I got home to a scene of mass destruction courtesy of my lad
Had one out of four I'd left in the drawer to keep some sanity and have managed to stave off the further need for one so far. Have now got rid of the rest so I have no temptation and will buy some gum tomoz.
It got really bad after eating and at coffee breaks so am taking short breaks and cracking on with other stuff :wack:
Amazing how ill you feel just cutting them out

Money saved Ģ4.10 put in a jar

Day one, so far so good, but having an early night coz if I sit here I'll end up rooting about for forgotten fags or half smoked butts :hurl: I can do this

I thought about giving up but I accidentally brought back 1000 Marlboro from Italy and when I got back a colleague had brought me another 200 back from Greece and I found out today she's bought another 400 for me while she's back out there this week. I'm going to sound like Rod Stewart once I've got through that lot. :wack:

My girlfriend had smoked for near on 16 years or so... but with some gentle encouragement from me, and Alan Carrs book - the easy way... shes been clean now for 2.5 years :)
Shes mucho richer (used o smoke 20+ a day) the house smells nice (well it smells of cat  ) and she tastes a lot better too

good luck, its not easy, but its worth it in the long run. you aint gonna live longer, but youll have so much more cash for toys... :)

ive only been stopped for about three months now, and at first i felt really ill, (colds and coughing etc) but now i feel great  it really is worth stopping :D
I was out the other night at a family do and when we got home my clothes stank of fags and my eyes and throat were stinging :hurl:
Now i think fags smell awlful :wack: I was even in the car the other day waiting at sme lights with both the windows down, a guy pulled up on my left and i could smell fag smoke coming from his car, i had to close my passenger window
