Actualy mate that aint a bad price. if you wanna save about £100 you could get it rebuilt, I had mine done recently and it came to around £400. you could try a scrappy but I doubt you'd get any kind of warrenty.

Nathan that rebuild suggestion sounds quite good as i was quoted the £450 for the part and then a further £300 for labour giving it a grand total of over £700 to replace the box. ideally i would like to do the job myself but have neither the technical knowledge or the facilities to do the job. could you give me details of the place where you got the rebuild they may be my most economical option as the diy option is out of my limits.

You could try the breakers I posted a while ago http://www.intapart.com/engines___gearboxes.htm .
They should have loads of boxes in as they were breaking 10 S13's last time I called them.
Chimp was going to get a complete engine from them (look in the "Got a link to a decent breakers? " thread).
