For you that i'll be a speed restricted Dolly!

I think this interferes with our right to freedom and free speech.and so gets a

Targeting speeding drivers yet again when the majority of deaths on the road are caused by people over the limit.

If that ever became standard in this country I'd be on the first plane outta here.

i think the motor manufacturers will love that!

max speed 1.0 corsa 70mph
max speed bmw 645 70mph

the system must have a bypass so you can drive abroad, so cover up the gps and of you go

“Roads are complicated and people make genuine errors when guessing the limit. Not everyone can measure the distance between lamp posts and ISA will remove uncertainty by displaying the limit on the dashboard.”

WTF!?!!  :annoyed:

I take it you never heard of the new car tax system they are looking into.

Each car would have a little black box in it so that they could tell if you were driving when you'd not paid your car tax, or something like that.

Let 'em fit it and ditch the cameras. It'll be bypassed/hacked within days .

This whole speed enforcement thing is getting waaaaay out of hand :annoyed:

What a load of toss.

Getting so pi$$ed off with this "if we reduce speeds, we will save x 000's of lives"

Get a life, find something more constructive to winge about. How long before we have 50mph limits on M-way because of these fooking lowlifes

iam in a real sh.tter of a mood today......

I'm all for them installing a system that displays the speed limit and beeps if you go to far above it ......... its just like a rev counter and shift light.

But the second it reduces your speed for you .... thats just fecking dangerous

Why don't they just make the fooking signs bigger for a start? I've never seen a repeater sign bigger than a CD . Sooo easy to get 3 points when it goes from a 40 to a 30 because they've only put up 1 tiny bloody sign.

If you're new to an area, you might as well drive everywhere at 25mph or you'll spend 90% of the time looking at lamposts for speed signs whilst clocking up points because they're traps everywhere to catch you out.

People also seem to go about 10mph under the limit when they go through a camera in fear of the bloody things being set too sensitive.

Had an argument with my lib-dem councellor friend over all of this and he pointed out that it is the motorists priviledge to be allowed to use the road :wack: . I asked him how the country would run if we all gave up this 'priviledge' and abandoned our cars tomorrow. Shut him up.

Sorry, typical anti-camera rant but I feel better for it.

Same rage i get when i see the Daily mail then.....!

Dont get me started!! Almost as bad as the tw@ts who do 80 on a dc/m-way, see a cop and slam on the anchors & do 60-65

Its so damn dangerous, they should be shot.

Managed to go totally OT with my ranting.... :o

How exactly will they ensure my safety?

Imagine the scene, Im cruising at 70mph on a motorway and GPS sensor misreads my position and decides Im on a 30mph road.... I lose power among other vehicles doing 70mph

I wonder what will happen if the GPS loses sight of the sat's? anyone with sat nav will know it doesnt work too well in enclosed spaces like multi story car parks.

I think if this becomes law my GSP receiver may accidently get wrapped in tin foil ;)

consider these two possible outcomes.
1/ car's cannot excede the posted speed limit. no one will be caught speeding. revenue from cameras will cease
2/ cars can still excede speed limit, but they will know, and you get the bill.

maybe there will be slot in the box for your visa card

What happens when you go over/under a bridge where the other road has different speed limit, ie, on a motorway at 70, you go under a bridge where the road is 30mph, and as you say it slams the breaks on!

True software could iron this out, but for every car and every bridge, Just ask yourself, how stable and reliable is Windows!

I'd have this system in my car as it's been an idea I've had for some time. If it means less speed cameras and speed bumps, then it's good idea.

I'd just make sure I could have it switched off whenever I wanted. ;)

voodoo_melon

This is a stupid idea and will increase accidents imo. People will drive round with the accelerator floored the whole time and the number of people who get driven into will increase loads. Also I reckon people (specially reps, bmw drivers etc) will leave even less space on the motorway.

are you aware that it was race logic that did alot of development of these systems

They'd have to make tracks unrestricted. Probably find a reason (excuse) not to though :annoyed: .

Then again, I can't see this happening (at an enforcement level anyway).

I'm sure read somewhere (Telegraph IIRC) that there are about 250,000 banned drivers now, and almost double that 3 points off a ban  .

if that was all it was used for, it sounds like a good idea to me.
Everyone will get taxed equally then maybe insurance wouldn't be invalidated when some git runs into you (and thenhence uninsured) etc.

I actually think any measure (except speed bumbs) to reduce the amount of speeding motorists on the roads is a good thing. In an ideal world the idea on this thread would be a good a one. However I can never see it happening because of reliability issues.

it will never happen because of this...

The Government’s senior transport adviser believes ISA could eliminate the need for speed cameras

therefore no more revenue, its the same reason they wont get rid of road tax because then they cant fine people who dont pay it anymore.

If for some reason I fail to leave the country and this comes in, I'll re-join the Royal Signals and 'borrow' ;) some EW kit to surround the fecking thing with

Or I suppose I could accidently drop it into the de-gauser (Spl????) at work :wack:
It won't talk to anyone after that! :smash:

What is really needed here is giant south pole magnets fitted to the front and rear of every car on the road then instead of hitting each other we'd just bounce off due to the magnetic poles repelling each other. Schoolkids and OAP's could have strap on South pole magnets so cars wouldnt hit them either, just sorta repell them out of the way :wack:
Thats what we need
Who wants to sponsor me for prime minister then

Nah!! That's all far too complicated!!! :whip:

All you need is for thousands of big inflatable balls, like the one that patrolled The Village in The Prisoner, to roll around between cars and pedestrians and stuff, thus preventing anyone from hitting anything. Except for the big inflatable balls, of course. :smash: :wack:

I can't see this ever coming to pass - as has een said, why would manufacturers agree to it? what about the revenue issues? and political lobbyists would burn any party at the stake that made this law...

They wouldn't have to. Either they comply with it or they don't sell cars in the UK.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, within the week of it being made compulsory dozens of companies will have made devices to make it lie about your speed. An interesting point about speeding which the government ignore is that our motorways are by far the safest in terms of safety record yet it also has the most speeding.
