View Full Version : £500 for a super chip ???????
Went into sanspeed today and was quoted £500 for superchip for a passat 1.8T is this about right sounds dear to me but adds 40bhp so i am tempted.
This is how a Superchips mod works on the average turbo car.
1. Install a bleed valve
2. Er - that's it.
£500 for a bleed valve seems a bit steep...

I was told that they fitted a chip into the ecu then downloaded the data to superchip and they make the chip to fit your car .Silly question but what is a bleed valve
sorry keith, but you have that wrong...
how dare you insinuate such a thing !!
what they really do is
.
.
.
.
.
1)install a bleed valve
3)put superchips sticker on ecu
step 2 is generally copy the chip, remove the speed limiter if they can find the bit that is set in the code, socket the board and put the new chip in
so you end up with what looks like a new ecu... a bleed valve and a sticker http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif

bleed valve costs £15, and takes upto 5 mins to fit max. on most cars. just dont go mad winding it right out.

It goes in the tube that takes boost pressure to the wastegate actuator, and it works by bleeding off a little of the pressure, thus fooling the wastegate into opening at a higher pressure, hence more boost.
You can take it too far though, and the results are, well, don't ask......
There's usually one or two in the for sale section.

But don't even think about fitting one without a decent boost gauge!!

But what about the fuelling?? Does the 200 detect that more air is there so compensates with higher fuelling or does it run weak?? Tthis is probably a stupid question which everyone knows the answer to - er but me

Mac & Mudzs, yeah it work it out to a point (280 bhp ish) that's what the AFM does.
The more air that goes in the more fuel it injects.
There comes a point where the AFM maxes out and the injectors can't inject enough.
Melted motor time.
The ECU takes, RPM, Load (i think), amount of air, cam position etc, compares it against the map then deduces what the timing should be and how long to leave the injector on for.
